Americans love their sports, and the athletes who play them.

Jim Thorpe won both the decathlon and pentathlon titles in 1912 at the Stockholm Games1. He was one of five men who have won two Olympic combined event titles. Bob Mathias, Daley Thompson and Ashton Eaton have all won back-to-back decathlon titles, and Eero Lehtonen won two Olympic pentathlon titles.

    July 15, 2022, The International Olympic Committee (IOC) reinstated Jim Thorpe as the sole champion of the decathlon and pentathlon in the 1912 Olympic Games.

  • Jim Thorpe Collection Art Exhibit

    The Breaking Barriers: The Jim Thorpe Collection art exhibit is currently being held at MAINSITE Contemporary Art in Norman, Oklahoma 1. The exhibit features the works of Norman-based artist Steve Hare, Norman printmaker and artist Ginna Dowling, metal work by Corbin Leonard, and artwork created by Norman High School students under the instruction of NHS art teacher Tauri Simms 1. The exhibition runs from October 13 through November 11, 2023, with an opening reception on October 13 from 6 to 9 p.m1.

    MAINSITE Contemporary Art is a non-profit art gallery and event rental space that is home to the Norman Arts Council 2. It is located at 122 E Main St, Norman, OK 73069 2. The gallery is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
